Unified Champion University - Science and practice for international networking
Unified Champion University - Science and practice for international networking
People with intellectual disabilities face disadvantages in many areas of life. A broad academic and professional community is working on disability inclusion at national and international level. Their achievements in isolation can be far less effective than a programme based on common thinking and unified principles. The conference of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Debrecen aims to create an opportunity for joint thinking and to provide a framework for cooperation by inviting researchers and professionals recognised in this field on the national and international scene.
The conference will also provide an opportunity to present and discuss the results of research to date, as well as best practices and good practices. However, the most important aim is to create a scientific and professional network in which effective methods and tools can be developed through education and research, which will help to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities and improve their quality of life. During the professional programme, open presentations will be given on the results achieved so far in the fields of volunteering, social awareness-raising and health behaviour of people with intellectual disabilities, followed by sessions on good practices and thematic research on the three themes. The final round table discussion will aim to build a collaborative and innovative network with contributions from active researchers invited from faculty and international participants. Our work will involve youth and athlete representatives of Special Olympics movement as empirical experts, as well as the national and international Special Olympics Association.
