THE "UNIVERSITY CHURCH" BUILDING

Located in the neighborhood of the main building of the University of Debrecen and the Great Forest, the University Church building is a significant asset of Debrecen. The designer was József Borsos, whose famous buildings contributed to the city's reputation. The handover ceremony took place in 1942. It originally served as a Calvinist church but now fulfills several functions. Its puritan interior, adapting the protestant tradition of modest sacred architecture, allows it to be a venue for scientific conferences, concerts and religious events. The church building, having an impressive inner space, can currently give place for 130 people, but the maximum number of seats is around 300. After a thorough renovation, which ended at the end of 2021, it has excellent acoustic properties, a built-in sound system, and a large projection screen. Because of this, the building can meet the requirements of a multi-functional event center. The location is ideal since the tram-1 stop is a short walk away. This tram line crosses Debrecen in a large area so the passengers can get to the city center and the Central Station without transfer.
