History of the International Student Drama Festival
During its history the festival has attracted competing groups from Szeged, Miskolc, Veszprém, Szombathely, and Debrecen as well as Poland and Romania. From the beginning the awards were given by an international jury consisting of theatre professionals and university professors including professional actors, directors, dramaturges, playwrights, and professors of drama from Hungary, England, Scotland, the United States, Canada, and Australia. In addition to the competition, guest performances by semi-professional student groups from Hungary, the United States and Great Britain were all warmly received by the students participating at the Festival. The 9th Festival 2-3 May 2008 for the first time, featured an Irish guest performance. Ten students from the Institute of Technology, Sligo staged Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa.
