Visitors from Shanghai at UD

Leading representatives of Shanghai Polytechnic University and the University of Debrecen signed an agreement on extending their cooperation in the fields of education, research, and culture in general on Monday.

“It is our intention to establish patterns of cooperation with the University of Debrecen in the future, which prove to be beneficial to students and teaching staff alike,” said Vice-Rector Zou Longfei on behalf of SPU, a university specializing in engineering programs, at the meeting on Monday.

The members of the delegation from China visited the University of Debrecen in order to learn about the details of the educational and research profile of our institution and to inquire about potential exchange programs.

Vice-Rector for Education Elek Bartha gave a presentation of facts and figures to the delegates from Asia, highlighting the impressive history as well as the rich and colorful assortment of programs offered at UD. He underlined that our institution is very popular with international students: they come to the University of Debrecen from as many as 101 different countries in the world, making up approximately 15 percent of the 30 thousand strong student body.

The heads of the two institutions of higher education signed a memorandum for the time period of five years, in which they emphasized their willingness to bring students and instructors from China and Hungary closer to one another in addition to the joint programs related to the basic activities of the universities, intending to build bridges between the cultures of their countries.


Both sides regard the chance to exchange experiences and best practices at the international level very important, for which token they hope that there will be more and more students coming to Debrecen from Shanghai in the future and, in exchange, growing numbers of Hungarian students will also get a chance to visit Shanghai Polytechnic. The signatories set up the objective of implementing joint research activities as well as hosting academic conferences and seminars together.

The members of the delegation were especially interested in the programs available at the University of Debrecen in the fields of engineering and economics. Thus, they paid a visit to the Faculty of Engineering and to the Faculty of Economics, and they could also get an insight into the everyday routine at the Faculty of Science and Technology.
